Pharmacist’s Hack: How to Remove Milia & Skin Tags at Home

Tiny bumps and growths of excess skin like milia and skin tags can be frustrating to deal with, often appearing in noticeable areas like the face and neck. Even if they’re in an inconspicuous area, you still might find them annoying and want them out of your life. Fear not, we have a pharmacist-approved hack that can help you say goodbye to milia and skin tags from the comfort of your own home.

Understanding Milia and Skin Tags

Before diving into the solution to this problem, let’s understand what we are dealing with.

Milia are small, white bumps that typically appear on the face, usually around the eyes, nose, and cheeks. They form when dead skin cells get trapped in pores, causing tiny cysts just beneath the surface of the skin.

Skin tags are small, soft, flesh-colored growths that protrude from the skin. They commonly develop in areas where your skin rubs against skin or clothing, such as the neck, armpits, and groin.

What You Need

You’ll need just two readily available items to tackle your milia and skin tags.

  1. Tagamet (Cimetidine): You can find this over-the-counter medication at most pharmacies and drug stores. To put it simply, cimetidine helps prevent your milia and skin tags from returning.
  2. The Ordinary AHA BHA Peeling Solution: This skincare product is gaining popularity for its exfoliating properties, helping to unclog pores, improve skin texture, and, in the case of milia and skin tags, removing the excess skin. You can find it at various retailers like Ulta, Sephora, Target, and Walmart.

Making the Solution

  1. Crush: Start by finely crushing six Tagamet 200mg tablets. You want them to be in a powder form so they can easily mix with the peeling solution.
  2. Mix: Add the crushed Tagamet tablets to The Ordinary AHA BHA Peeling Solution. Mix thoroughly until the powder is even distributed throughout the solution.
  3. Apply: Using a cotton swab or clean fingertips, apply the mixture directly to the skin tag or milia once a day. Be cautious when applying near the eyes!!
