Supplement Series Part 1: Foundations of Beauty and Health

Part 1: Foundations of Beauty and Health

As a pharmacist and cosmetic chemist, I know that true beauty and health is not only from serums and cleansers but also from within. This is why oral supplements play a huge role in maintaining and enhancing my overall well-being and skin health. In the first part of this three-part series, I'll introduce you to some foundational supplements that have become essential to my daily routine.

Omega-3 Fish Oil

Omega-3 Fish Oil from the Vitamin Shoppe is a must-have. It’s rich in EPA and DHA, which helps reduce inflammation, promote heart health, and boost brain function. Plus, it keeps my skin barrier healthy, reduces dryness, and gives me a radiant complexion. EPA and DHA are the bioactive forms of omega-3’s and it is recommended to get at least a combined 650 milligrams/day of these key omega-3 fats. This product from the Vitamin Shoppe contains 900 mg of EPA and DHA per capsule.

Calcium 1200 with Vitamin D3

The Calcium with Vitamin D3 that I use is also from the Vitamin Shoppe. Vitamin D3 is the form of vitamin D that your body produces from the sun making D3 the most absorbable. Calcium with Vitamin D is essential for maintaining strong bones and teeth. Vitamin D enhances calcium absorption, which is crucial for bone health, especially as we age. Moreover, Vitamin D supports skin health by preventing premature aging and boosting our immune systems. It is recommended to take 1200 mg of calcium and 400-800 iu (international units) of D3 daily. This supplement from the Vitamin Shoppe meets those requirements so I take 2 softgels daily.

Spirulina

I have incorporated Spirulina into my routine for years now because it is a nutrient-dense superfood packed with protein (who knew!), vitamins, and minerals. This supports my overall health and boosts my energy levels. It also has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help detoxify my body and enhance its immune function. Additionally, Spirulina promotes a clear complexion by providing essential nutrients and aiding in the body's natural detoxification processes. I take 3 tablets of this Spirulina in the morning and 3 tablets in the evening to ensure I get 3 grams of Spirulina daily.

Incorporating these foundational supplements into your daily routine can profoundly impact your health and skin. Stay tuned for the next part of this series, where we'll explore supplements that support cognitive function and overall vitality.
